“I didn’t relate well to people my age. Maybe the truth was that I
didn’t relate well to people, period. Even my mother, who I was closer to than
anyone else on the planet, was never in harmony with me, never on exactly the
same page. Sometimes I wondered if I was seeing the same things through my eyes
that the rest of the world was seeing through theirs. Maybe there was a glitch
in my brain.”
Chapter 1, "First Sight," 10-11
Hamill:
I am the most popular girl in my high school. I am
surrounded by people who adore me. Girls look to me as a role model. I never
attributed those traits from my parents because I was never close to them. My
mister was the one who taught me how to be confident. Ever since she taught me
how to step out of my comfort zone, I am made many friends. Life could not get
any sweeter.
Van Gough:
I thought moving here to Forks would allow Bella to branch
out more. She had always been shy but I figured a change of scenery would
change her perspective on life, but I was wrong. Every day she sits in her room
by herself for hours. When she is at school she does not participate and is
always excluded. As her father, I hoped for more, but I guess breaking out of
her shell will take time
